PRESS RELEASE: 16th September 2020
LOCAL VINTAGE SINGER APPOINTED AN AMBASSADOR FOR NATIONAL CHARITY APPEAL
A popular singer on the 1940s circuit, vintage singer Jayne Darling from Arnold, has been appointed an ambassador for the charity – ENSA Memorial Appeal.
The appeal has been set up to raise the funds to commission a memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield to honour those men and women of the show business profession that did so much to boost morale during World War 2 both at home and on the front line as part of ENSA, Stars in Battledress and RAF Gang Shows. The aim is to have the memorial unveiled in time for the 80th anniversary of VE Day in May 2025.
Apart from the memorial the appeal sets out also to educate the public in the role that these people did in helping achieve the final victory and are keen to hear from anyone who was part of the afore mentioned organisations or from people who had family members in them.
We will celebrate not just the more famous names of the period but also the everday singers, dancers, technicians and actors.
A spokesperson for the charity said, “It is an honour to have Jayne as part of our team of ambassadors helping spread the name and work of the appeal as she travels around the country performing at the many top 1940s themed events”.
Donations are invited in memory of a loved one who served in the war either in the Armed Services, Home Guard, or Womens Land Army. Also in memory of someone who was an entertainer from 1930s to present day. All names will be included in a book about the appeal to be published after the unveiling of the memorial.
Members of the public are invited to join the Facebook group and visit the website at
