🎙️ Yesterday I wrapped up my final VE Day 80 performance – singing for Blind Veterans UK at Elmswell Village Hall in Suffolk. A lovely afternoon tea with a room full of brilliant people.Blind Veterans UK is an incredible charity that supports vision-impaired ex-Servicemen and women – not just those who lost their sight during service, but anyone who’s lost their sight later in life. Their work gives these veterans back their confidence, independence and community. 💪🏼It was a real honour to perform for such an amazing group, including two absolutely remarkable individuals:🎖️ Robbie Hall, 102 years old, is a female WW2 veteran who served with courage and determination. She lied about her age to join the Women's Auxiliary Air Force at just 17. During the war, she worked in the accounts section of RAF Bomber Command, keeping Air Ministry regulations and instructions up to date. Her boss was Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris, and at the time of D-Day, she was with Fighter Command.🎖️ Jim Grant, who has just turned 100, served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War and saw action in the Atlantic and Arctic Convoys. He even helped escort Winston Churchill across the Atlantic! Very sad to hear of the passing of my friend Stan Streather – known to so many in the 1940s community for his brilliant portrayal of Winston Churchill.I had the pleasure of working alongside Stan at various events over the years and he always showed me nothing but kindness. He had such a strong presence, yet was so down to earth – I always enjoyed our chats, laughs, and the moments in between the performances just as much as seeing him command a crowd with his speeches.Stan’s portrayal of Churchill was second to none – authentic, powerful, and full of respect for the history he represented. Eighteen. ❤️At 6.23am and 6.24am on Tuesday 8th May 2007, my tiny warriors entered the world 12 weeks early – weighing just 2lb 6oz and 3lb 1oz. Isobel and Carys, my beautiful twins, my greatest achievement.I honestly don’t have the words (well, not many!) to say how proud I am of the young women they’ve become. They are clever, kind, funny, and just absolutely brilliant to be around. My best friends – and right now, working their socks off revising for their A levels.They’ve been surrounded by love their whole lives – our family is incredibly close and I’m so grateful they’ve grown up knowing what that kind of support feels like. 💕Happy 18th Birthday my girls 🥂🎉 You’ve come so far – and the best is yet to come. ... Had a brilliant day at Darfield Community Centre in Barnsley for their Family VE Day 🇬🇧Lorna and Blake have worked so hard to make the centre a real asset to the community – it’s a welcoming space that hosts everything from parent-and-baby groups to events like this one.
