When your weekend feels like it’s been on fast-forward for three days straight…Friday night I was at The Commercial Inn in Beeston celebrating June’s 96th birthday – my 4th year singing for this lovely lady’s party! This year we went full 60s & 70s, with a bit of festival sparkle thrown in for good measure for June ✨Saturday was all about my sister Ellie’s wedding to the lovely Chris. My girls were bridesmaids alongside our niece Beatrice, and our nephew Alexander (9) casually stole the show with a bit of stand-up comedy… he had us in stitches, some jokes not to be repeated! My daughter Carys made the Mountain wedding cake inspired by the newlyweds love of snow boarding. Sunday started in Newark for Armed Forces Day, where I had the honour of leading the National Anthem and performing for the Veterans’ lunch before heading back into the square later on.Then straight from that into birthday mode at my niece Beatrice’s 7th birthday party… obviously I had to have a go on the bouncy castle slide (as you do) - no broken limbs this time though.Sunday evening I finished off at Theatre Royal Nottingham to see Elkie Brooks – 81 years young and absolutely owning that stage. Incredible band, packed house, and a proper masterclass in performing.Think I might need a quieter weekend next time round… or at least a lie down on that bouncy castle slide 😅 ... See MoreSee Less

🎶 A busy few days ahead! 🎶The sequinned frocks are pressed, the music is ready, and somewhere in Nottinghamshire a family wedding is rapidly approaching! 💒☀️This Saturday, my sister is getting married and final preparations are well underway. My daughter Carys has taken on the important responsibility of making the wedding cake 🎂 and, having sampled plenty of her baking over the years, I can confirm the guests are in for a treat.Carys, her twin sister Isobel and their 6-year-old cousin Beatrice will all be bridesmaids, which means there will be plenty of photographs and plenty of excitement.Before the wedding festivities begin, I'll be spending Friday evening celebrating a very special birthday. 🎉. I'll be singing for the lovely June as she celebrates her 96th birthday. This will be the fourth year in a row that I've had the pleasure of performing at her birthday party and it's always one of the highlights of my year. June has seen an incredible amount of history unfold during her lifetime and still knows how to throw a good party! 🎶🥂Then, once the wedding confetti has settled, it'll be straight on to Newark Armed Forces Weekend on Sunday. 🇬🇧I'll be leading the singing of the National Anthem at 12:30pm following the parade before performing for the veterans' lunch.Later in the afternoon I'll be back in Newark Market Place at 2:00pm with a selection of wartime favourites and popular classics.If you're attending any of these events, do come and say hello. Just don't ask me to carry the wedding cake. 🇬🇧 A fantastic day at the National Tramway Museum's Home Front Day! 🚋🎶A huge thank you to Gary Barwell, the staff and the army of volunteers at the National Tramway Museum for delivering such a well-organised event celebrating the people, communities and everyday efforts that kept Britain going during the war years.From the moment visitors arrived there was plenty to see and do across the site. Live music, dancing, military vehicles, displays, family activities, storytelling, reenactors, wartime characters and, naturally, trams everywhere you looked. 🚋The flypast was absolutely superb and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the day. There was a real sense of anticipation as everyone stopped what they were doing and looked skywards. ✈️🇬🇧My family came along too, including my 9-year-old nephew and 6-year-old niece, and they had a brilliant day. One thing that struck all of us was how different the event felt from some previous 1940s weekends at Crich, and I believe that was entirely intentional.The museum wanted an event that was educational, enjoyable, manageable, sustainable and very much aimed at families. The café, pub and facilities coped well throughout the day, visitors weren't spending large parts of their visit queueing, and there was still plenty happening wherever you went.It's easy to forget that the National Tramway Museum is not a huge commercial attraction with unlimited resources. It relies on a relatively small team supported by a dedicated group of volunteers who give up countless hours of their time. Managing some of the enormous crowds seen at previous events has placed a huge strain on those people, so finding the right balance is important.I've heard a few comments suggesting the event wasn't busy. From what I saw, and from conversations during the day, that certainly wasn't the case. Visitor numbers were very healthy, the museum was pleased with the turnout, and most importantly it appears they achieved exactly what they set out to achieve.As someone who performs at events ranging from small heritage attractions to major events such as Goodwood Revival, I know there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach. Every venue has different objectives, different challenges and different resources available to them.
